Helping where it matters

In The Gambia there are still a lot of children who are not at school. Thanks to a large donation to our charity and a Gambian who I know in Leeds it may be possible to build another nursery school in Sekuta. On my recent visit to The Gambia I went to see a piece of land which would be ideal to build a nursery school and I am awaiting costings as it is 14 years ago that we rebuilt The James Ogoo School and costs will have increased. The land would cost us nothing so it would be the building, furniture and other costs to make the school operational. As with James Ogoo we would give all the children mosquito nets and we would have to find someone to run the school. Fortunately I know someone who is keen to run her own nursery school.

The charity also helps other Gambians from time to time with medication, rice for compounds, vehicle repairs etc. Medication is not free in The Gambia and they struggle in the ‘rainy season’ which lasts from about July to October during which time many have no work.
